Santos and the streets up towards Bica and São Bento have some of Lisbon's best-loved cafés. Not all of them welcome laptops, so here's which is which. Walking times are from our Santos residence; some are uphill.
For a laptop session
- •Copenhagen Coffee Lab Santos (Avenida 24 de Julho 56, about 3 min): the Danish bakery-café is spacious, so you can usually find a seat, and it opens at 07:00 on weekdays (07:30 at weekends) until 18:00. Reviewers love the cinnamon and blueberry buns.
- •The Mill (Rua do Poço dos Negros 1, about 6 min, uphill): a long-running Luso-Australian café for breakfast, brunch and espresso, with power sockets. It's often full at peak times, so go early or mid-afternoon. Weekdays 08:00 to 15:00, weekends to 16:00.
- •COMOBÅ (Rua da Boavista 90, about 5 min): one of the city's core specialty cafés according to a 2026 report on Lisbon coffee, with brunch. Opens at 08:30; closing times differ between listings.
For a coffee break
- •Hello, Kristof (Rua do Poço dos Negros 103, about 3 min): a small specialty café full of magazines that now roasts its own beans. Free Wi-Fi, but a recent review says laptops aren't allowed, so come for the coffee, not to work. Every day, 08:45 to 15:45.
- •Manteigaria at Time Out Market (Avenida 24 de Julho 50, about 10 min): pastéis de nata from 08:00 to midnight. Take one down to Ribeira das Naus for the sunset.
For free
Biblioteca Camões (Largo do Calhariz 17, first floor, about 9 min, uphill by the Elevador da Bica) is the nearest municipal library, with reading and group-work rooms, free Wi-Fi and snack machines. The city library network calls it the one with the best view over the Tagus. Weekdays 10:00 to 18:00, and Saturdays according to the BLX site, so check.
