Where to eat in Arroios, Lisbon: bifanas, tascas and food from everywhere

Arroios is one of Lisbon's most international neighbourhoods and it eats like it: a famous bifana counter, family tascas, a Syrian kitchen in the market, a Nepalese favourite and a cheap vegan buffet.

Arroios is one of Lisbon's most mixed neighbourhoods, and its food shows it. Within a 15-minute walk of our residence on Rua Morais Soares you can have a €4 bifana at a counter, a Syrian lunch inside the municipal market and a proper Portuguese dinner. Everything here was checked against recent reviews and listings in November 2026.

Cheap and quick

•Parreirinha do Chile (Praça do Chile 14A, about 9 min): a no-frills counter where locals queue on their lunch break for bifanas, with a sauce some call the best in Lisbon. A recent review quotes a bifana-and-drink deal at €4.20, and there's caldo verde too. Open Monday to Saturday (Saturday until 15:00). Several reviewers say it's cash only, so bring some.
•Lisbon Vegan Restaurante (Rua de Arroios 175, about 11 min): a fully vegan hot buffet and salad bar. A February 2026 review paid €8.50 for lunch. Open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.

Portuguese, the neighbourhood way

•Delícia de Arroios (Rua de Arroios 137, about 11 min): small, homemade and among the highest-rated restaurants in the city. Reviewers mention grilled octopus, fried salt cod and the biscuit cake. Like many family places it closes for a summer break, so check in August.
•Taberna Os Papagaios (Rua Lucinda Simões 13, by the market, about 7 min): an old-school taberna with a few new ideas. The menu changes, but think oxtail, migas and tuna pica-pau, and don't skip the chocolate mousse. Open every day; no reservations.
•Adega do Domingos (Rua de Arroios 56A, about 12 min): northern Portuguese cooking in huge portions. A francesinha is about €15, and two mains can feed three. Book on busy nights.

From further away

•Mezze (inside the Mercado de Arroios, about 7 min): a Syrian kitchen run as a social project that employs refugees and immigrants. Start with the couvert of hummus, baba ganoush, muhammara and fresh bread (€5 a person), then falafel or kibbeh at €5 each. Open Tuesday to Saturday until 23:00 and Sunday lunch. If you need halal food, ask the staff.
•Annapurna (Avenida Almirante Reis 179A, about 9 min): a Nepalese restaurant open since 1997, good for curries, tandoori grills and momos. Closed on Tuesdays.

A beer hall and a treat

•Portugália (Avenida Almirante Reis 117, about 8 min): the original Portugália beer hall, opened in 1925, turned 100 in 2025. Have a croquete and an imperial at the counter, or the steak with the house sauce. Open every day from noon.
•Horta dos Brunos (Rua Ilha do Pico 27, about 15 min): a chef-run traditional Portuguese restaurant for a special occasion. Reservation only. Tell them what you like and let the chef guide you.

And after midnight, Fábrica dos Bolos do Chile (Avenida Almirante Reis 149A, about 8 min) sells warm pastéis de nata and bolas de Berlim through the night; listings show it open from 20:30.
