Where to eat in Olaias, Lisbon: a local grill, a family tasca and a few treats

Olaias is quiet, so the best food is a short walk away: a neighbourhood grill two minutes from the door, a third-generation tasca, a 1955 café-restaurant on Almirante Reis and a natural-wine dinner spot.

Olaias is a calm residential pocket on the red metro line, and right around our residence the choice is short. That's fine: the two places on the doorstep are good, and within 15 to 20 minutes on foot you reach the Alameda, Almirante Reis and Penha de França, where the options open up. Everything here was checked against recent reviews and listings in November 2026.

On the doorstep

  • •Os Mimos do Churrasco (Largo Honório Barreto, about 2 min): a neighbourhood grill doing home-style Portuguese food, with the day's menu and prices on its website. A bitoque with rice, fries and a fried egg is about €10, feijoada starts at €7 and soup is €1.50. You can eat in, take away or order delivery from the site. Monday to Saturday, 11:00 to 15:00 and 17:30 to 21:00.
  • •Pepe & Oliva (Rua Cristóvão Falcão 9C, about 3 min): the nearest sit-down Italian, with more than 1,000 Google reviews. Regulars order the cannelloni, the risotto and the red-berry sangria; expect about €15 to €20 a head. Lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, dinner only on Monday, closed Sunday. Takeaway by phone.

  • •Tasca do Miguel (Rua Egas Moniz 45A, about 8 min): a family tasca with three decades behind it, now run by the third generation. Time Out recommends the house steak with homemade esparregado and crispy potatoes. There's a weekly rhythm too: bacalhau com grão on Mondays, cozido on Thursdays, feijoada at the weekend. About €20 to €25 a head. Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday.
  • •Café Império (Avenida Almirante Reis 205A, about 13 min): a Lisbon institution since 1955, in the old Cinema Império building. The signature is the bife à Império in its secret sauce, and big football matches play on a screen downstairs. Not cheap (about €40 a head), so keep it for a night out with friends or visiting family. Open every day for lunch and dinner.

Something different

  • •Tati (Rua Carrilho Videira 20B, Penha de França, about 14 min): creative small plates and natural wine, with a menu that changes weekly. If the empanadas are on, order them. Dinner only, Wednesday to Sunday; about €30 to €35 a head.
  • •Restaurante Bio Vegetariano (Rua Francisco Sanches 39, about 18 min): a vegetarian restaurant open since 2005, known for big portions; try the vegetable lasagne. Monday to Saturday, lunch and dinner.

A little further on, the Mercado de Arroios has Syrian food at Mezze and modern Portuguese at Tasca do Mercado, both about 12 minutes away; see where to eat in Arroios. Hours change, so check the listing before you go.
