Where to eat in Saldanha, Lisbon: tascas, ramen and a late-night classic

Ramen three minutes from the door, a family bistro with some of the best bacalhau in town, €9.90 dishes of the day, a 1966 snack-bar open until 03:30 and two plant-based favourites: where to eat near our Saldanha residence.

Saldanha and Picoas are Lisbon's office district, which is good news for your stomach: plenty of honest lunch places at fair prices, plus a few that stay open very late. Weekday lunches get busy and Sundays are thinner, since many tascas close. Walking times are from our residence near Rua Gomes Freire. Everything was checked against recent reviews and listings in November 2026.

Close to home

  • •Ajitama Ramen Bistro (Avenida Duque de Loulé 36, about 3 min): the original branch of a ramen bar that appears in most Lisbon ramen guides. Go for the miso or the rich Hakata tonkotsu; there's a veggie bowl too.
  • •Vegan Junkies (Rua Luciano Cordeiro 28, about 6 min): fully vegan comfort food. Reviewers recommend the burgers, the BBQ cauliflower wings, tacos and loaded nachos; one paid under €20 for food and a cocktail. Opening times differ between listings, so check.

Portuguese lunch, office-district style

  • •Cacué (Rua Tomás Ribeiro 93C, Picoas, about 10 min): a small family bistro run by its chef. A Mensagem called its bacalhau arguably the best in town; the prego and the crab soup are worth ordering too. Lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday (Monday may be lunch only), closed Sunday.
  • •Moisés (Avenida Duque de Ávila 121, about 13 min): an old-school restaurant with dishes of the day, many at €9.90 in 2025 and fish around €15. Try the escalopes with mushrooms, the filetes, and a jug of draught beer. Sources disagree on which day it closes, so check.

Cheap, quick and plant-based

  • •Tozzi Forneria Moderna (Rua Latino Coelho 69A, about 13 min): pizzas and sandwiches on dough fermented for 48 hours, with good vegan options and house-made vegan cheese. Small room, so book. Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday.
  • •The Green Affair (Avenida Duque de Ávila 30A, about 13 min): 100% plant-based, with internationally inspired plates such as a katsu curry and burrito bowls (around €10 in 2026), and a set lunch. About €15 to €20 a head.

After dark

Galeto (Avenida da República 14, about 14 min) opened in 1966 and still has its long counter and 1960s interior. The menu has over 170 options: order a prego, the bife à Galeto or one of the "combinados". It's open every day from 07:30 to 03:30, which makes it the area's late-night classic; prices go up slightly after 22:00.

On the Arroios side, about 10 to 13 minutes away, you also have Adega do Domingos for huge northern portions and the original Portugália beer hall; see where to eat in Arroios.
